CANADA’S SLEEP CALENDAR

Sleep affects every stage of life. It influences our physical and mental health, how children learn and develop, how safely we drive and work, how well we perform and, ultimately, our quality of life. Yet many aspects of sleep health remain poorly understood or receive far less public attention than their importance deserves.

Canada’s Sleep Calendar brings these different conversations together.

Presented by The Sleep Society through SleepSafeCanada, the Calendar provides a coordinated, year-round programme of public education and awareness. Eleven initiatives, observed from January through November, each focus on a different aspect of sleep, health, wellbeing or safety—from mental and cardiovascular health to children’s sleep, shift work, drowsy driving and workplace impairment.

Some coincide naturally with established health or international observances; others have been developed to draw attention to important areas of sleep health and safety that remain under-recognised. Together, they demonstrate just how widely sleep influences our lives—from childhood to older age, from home and school to the workplace and the highway.

Each month provides an opportunity to learn, share and become involved. Select an initiative from the Calendar below to explore why it matters, what we are working to achieve, and the information and resources available.

Better sleep. Better health. Better Canada.
